Outbreak of Salmonella Newport

Whooping cough cases increase

Nurses

The practice has a team of five well qualified practice nurses who are all Registered General nurses. They provide:

Health checks
Blood pressure monitoring and hypertension management
Cervical smear screening
Injections, dressings, ear syringing, blood samples, ECGs
Contraception
Childhood immunisations
Travel clinics and advice
Teenage and young person checks

Following substantial additional training, we have practice nurses who are now experts in many areas of disease management, and run clinics for:

Diabetes
Asthma
COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary disease)
Heart disease

We also have a nurse Practitioner who works along side the doctors to provide surgeries for patient with minor illnesses, they are able to examine patients, make a diagnosis and plan care.

The practice nurses are assisted by our two Health Care Assistants who have undergone training to support the doctors and nurses carry out a range of procedures.

Our Practice Manager is responsible for the overall management of the practice and any queries or comments regarding procedures or personnel should be passed to him for resolution.

Reception

Becky Timmis
Patient Services Manager
Becky manages the reception team and is responsible for the initial patient contact with the practice.

We have a team of seven receptionists who always try to provide patients with a friendly and efficient service. The receptionists are the first point of contact at the practice and will try to direct you to the most appropriate service for your needs.

All our receptionists are well-trained and skilled members of staff. As well as answering the telephones, booking appointments and giving out results, the team have a variety of other jobs to support other departments in the practice.
This is a very varied role and can be very stressful at times. Although they will try to provide patients with what they want, sometimes, for different reasons, they may not always be able to provide you with this. However, they will strive to find an alternative solution to ensure you receive the best care possible. Please help them if they ask you for more information - it is to assist the doctor to assess your needs.
