Flu Season is almost upon us and we are working behind the scenes to secure delivery dates and setting up clinics for our patients. We should be getting our delivery of Flu Vaccinations week commencing 20th September and we are hoping to start running clinics from week commencing 27th September. This is to ensure there are no last minute delays.
As in previous years we will be running our main clinic at Headley Park Church Hall, which will be aimed at our over 65 patients and then regular smaller clinics in our improved access appointments on a Saturday morning at The Lennard Surgery.
The success of the hands – face- space campaign and the lockdowns has meant that flu had little chance of spreading in the last couple of years. While we should congratulate ourselves on this success, sadly that means, as we open up, the risks for flu and other viral infections will increase and Covid-19 will still be in circulation.
With this in mind we will be offering the flu to everyone over 50 years and those 18- 49 years who meet specific criteria. Those who are pregnant and carers under the age of 50 will also be offered a vaccine. Children of school age (4-16 year olds) will be vaccinated in school. We will also run a children’s clinic for ages 2-3 and aged 4–18 who are clinically at risk.
Booking Your Flu Vaccination:
We will be sending out Invitations by letter starting with our over 65 and most vulnerable patients. You must bring your vaccination letter to your appointment. The letter will have a barcode which will get scanned on to your GP records. Patients under the age of 65 will receive a letter or text message. If you have recently changed your mobile number and not informed the surgery you can do this via our website under “Change of Contact details form”
Please wait for your invitation to arrive by letter or text before you contact the surgery to book your appointment.
Housebound and Care Home Residents:
We will be coming out to our patients in care homes and those who are on our housebound register (we have strict criteria to be met before being placed on this register). We will contact the care home and housebound patients to arrange.
Covid Booster Vaccination:
Little confirmed detail is available to us at the moment. The JCVI are considering the emerging data concerning which vaccines to use, at what interval and how long after the second dose it is required. What we do know is that we will be required to invite patients according to risk.
Please help us to help you by:
- Notify us if your contact details have changed via our website, particularly if you have a new mobile telephone number.
- Waiting for us to contact you to invite you to a clinic.
- Understand if you are not in one of the eligibility criteria we will not be offering you a flu
- Please attend on the date you are booked otherwise valuable time and resource is wasted.
